GFS began in Japan in Kyoto in 1916. In August 2016 we held the 100th celebrations of the establishment of GFS in Japan.
We had a special service in St Agnes' Church, which is also the Cathedral of the Anglican Diocese in Japan. Each of the eight GFS dioceses were represented. It took 10 years to finally complete the 100 year history book.
Every three years, we have a gathering of members at our Japan GFS Council meeting, held in the diocese of our current National Chairman for our annual general meeting and election of new executive members.
We also have workshops every year to learn and teach for fellowship and worship.
GFS operates in the dioceses of Hokkaido, Tohoku, Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Kyushyu, Okinawa.
We were the recipients of the 2014-2017 GFS World Project. We hope to continue a part or our World Project. We truly realise the importance of continuing support especially toward the children. It is now over six years since the East Japan great earthquake disaster, so that the debris was put in order, new building and new roads were made so that there is visual revival. However, it seems that revival in the inner parts of people's emotions have not progressed yet because the Tsunami disaster robbed the daily life of Fukushima. The parents who live in the Fukushima area still worry about the influence of the radioactivity on children. Therefore GFS Japan want to keep the Kid's Refresh Camps progressing. We promise to keep supporting the kids in Tohoku area. (See the World Project page)
