GIRLS FRIENDLY SOCIETY SIERRA LEONE

Girls Friendly Society Sierra Leone was established in 1966 by Mrs Lucretia Gordon, who was an ardent member of the mother’s union. She was in England to participate on a mother’s union conference there she met other members of the Girls Friendly society. She came back home and introduced the idea of having the Girls Friendly Society within the Anglican Diocese of Freetown, and was known as the Diocesan Girls Friendly Society.

The GFs from then has been growing and has spread around the Diocese of Freetown and the Diocese of Bo. We have 26 active Branches and we have through the years gave our girls spiritual and moral support especially at these trying times.

We continue to hold thanksgiving and Africana services.

Seminars are organised as a bi-annual event. During these seminars professionals are invited to talk on career counselling, gender empowerment and climate change.

Retreat for all branch leaders and secretaries were held.

During the holiday camps girls do bible studies and exposition together with craft work and cooking session as activity programs.

We are working on further expansion to other churches in the Diocese of Freetown and the Diocese of Bo.
